Dr. Johnson is fellowship trained in female urology, neurourology and reconstructive surgery. She practices female and general urology and specializes in urinary incontinence (male and female)/ voiding dysfunction, stress urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, pelvic reconstructive surgery, pelvic organ prolapse, chronic pelvic pain, interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome and recurrent urinary tract infections.

Dr. Johnson also treats complex neurogenic conditions of the bladder and pelvic area including neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, cerebral palsy and spinal cord injury. In addition, she treats male and female patients for general urology conditions including kidney and ureteral stones, bladder conditions including bladder stones and bladder cancer, enlarged prostate, vasectomy and elevated PSA.

During her undergraduate training, Dr. Johnson was elected to the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Academic Honor Society, Rutgers College General Honors Program, the National Dean’s List, the Phi Eta Sigma Academic Honor Society, and received numerous accolades including the New Jersey Senate Volunteerism Citation, the New Jersey General Assembly Service Award, the Office of the Mayor Volunteerism Proclamation, and the Outstanding Achievement Award for Community Service. While in medical school, Dr. Johnson was awarded the First Prize by the American College of Surgeons for Outstanding Surgical Manuscript, the Distinction in Research Degree, and the Association of Families and Friends research scholarship. Her other scholarship awards included the Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholar, the George H. Laufenberg Exemplary Scholar and the Outstanding Scholars Program.

Dr. Johnson has published and presented extensively at national meetings on topics including treatments and procedures for male, female and pediatric urologic conditions, and has authored book chapters on repair of urethral diverticulum, urodynamics, interstitial cystitis and other inflammatory conditions of the lower urinary tract. She has authored grants, taught courses and presented her research across the country, and has been invited as an international speaker.

Dr. Johnson is a member of the American Urological Association, the American Association of Clinical Urologists, the Society of Women in Urology, the Association of Women Surgeons, the Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine and Urogenital Reconstruction, the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Valentine Mott Surgical Society, the Endourological Society, and the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Shapiro is the Director of the Center for Continence and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction of Chesapeake Urology and Chief of Urology at the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute. He specializes in the diagnosis and management of urinary incontinence in men and women, pelvic prolapse, voiding dysfunction and neurourology. He also performs the UroLift procedure for the treatment of BPH/enlarged prostate.
